Unit 3 Reflection

For my unit 3 project, I chose the topic that I have been researching throughout the semester, and that was technology in the classroom. I decided that I wanted an audience that I could closely relate to and research about, and I was among them – students in college. In the beginning, I wanted to argue about how technology was hurting students’ education, because I felt negatively towards it, and that was my argument for the unit 1 project. I felt negatively towards it because I would always experience negative effects when I use technology, so I wanted to dive deeper into it. For the second unit, I dealt a lot deeper into this topic and discovered many new things. I started realizing that technology had a lot more benefits than I thought, and some of its negative effects aren't directly correlated with the use of technology. For example, I thought that the blue light coming off of our devices were the direct causes for symptoms like headaches and eye strains. But, the more I res...

Unit 3: Graphic Novels

Image
For this writing prompt, I read the graphic novel titedl "Poppies of Iraq" by Brigitte Findakly and Lewis Trondheim. This graohic novel goes into detail about the life of a girl (who in this case, is the author), written in first person, is connected to her home country, Iraq, while having educated, middle-to-upper class parents working in France. She talks about the political environment in Iraq have experienced dramastic changes throughout her childhood, and how she hasn't really been affected by this due to her family background and socioeconomic status. But, she has been around people who have been affected by this, such as her neighbors. Additionally, she talks about her experiences being Christian in the Arab world, which is known to be majorty Muslim, and how that is also just another element that puts her in a separate category than everyone else around her. Overall I found this graphic novel to be interesting, and somewhat relatable because my family backgroun...

Unit 3: reddit

I listened to the podcast, "There was An Attempt." This podcast goes into detail about the relationships between the white Americans and the Native Americans. They talk about how the white settlers were continuously insensitive towards the natives. They would have different, and often offensive depictions for them. For example, there was an ad/poster of a Native American where they were red, which is a clear way for white settlers to categorize them into someone else, into a group of people who aren't like them, but rather inferior. We see this multiple times throughout history, where natives were forced out of their villages, forced to go to 'white'' schools where they were taught to repress their native traditions and cultures, their language and more - they were clearly seen as inferior and unwanted by white settlers. This reminds me about how the US has historically been doing this to not only natives, but to other minority groups as well, like immigrants,...

Unit 2 Reflection

To begin, I didn’t have to think too much about who my audience would be for this piece. This is because my topic, which focuses on the use of digital tools in the classroom, already zooms into a specific age group: students. Now, I could have chosen to focus on younger students, or older students, who potentially were in college or grad school, and I chose older students because I thought I would be able to find more rich content there. Secondly, I thought I could apply this topic to myself and my surroundings, like my friends, people in my class and more, which would make it easier for me to write this research paper and understand it better, which it did. Lastly, I chose this audience because it was the most relatable to me, so it automatically interested me more. So, once I chose this audience, I thought that the best way to reach it was by directly engaging with it face-to-face, hence why I chose to interview people for my pitch. It was definitely more helpful to experience askin...

Research Question: How does the transfer of writing from being handwritten to typed/using a digital pen affect students? Introduction : A vast majority of teachers utilize technology to a significant extent in the classroom, and many students believe that classwork would be nearly impossible without the integration of this technology. This trend has become increasingly prevalent in educational institutions across the US. As technology continues to advance, it’s become an integral part of students' daily lives, influencing the way they are taught, take notes, and study. One notable change is the shift of writing tools; how the educational system has stopped relying on handwriting, to more advanced options like digital pens and typing. While these new tools are very beneficial, it’s crucial to analyze the impacts of these technologies, in terms of effectiveness, mental health and efficiency. Although there are benefits, the use of technolgy can be more damaging to students because...

[INTRO] An interesting fact.. In a recent survey, over seventy percent of students reported that their teachers utilize technology to a significant extent in the classroom. Many students even expressed that classwork would be nearly impossible without the integration of technology. This trend has become increasingly prevalent in educational institutions across the United States. As technology continues to advance, it has become an integral part of students' daily lives, influencing the way they are taught, take notes, and study.
