Unit 3: reddit

I listened to the podcast, "There was An Attempt." This podcast goes into detail about the relationships between the white Americans and the Native Americans. They talk about how the white settlers were continuously insensitive towards the natives. They would have different, and often offensive depictions for them. For example, there was an ad/poster of a Native American where they were red, which is a clear way for white settlers to categorize them into someone else, into a group of people who aren't like them, but rather inferior. We see this multiple times throughout history, where natives were forced out of their villages, forced to go to 'white'' schools where they were taught to repress their native traditions and cultures, their language and more - they were clearly seen as inferior and unwanted by white settlers. This reminds me about how the US has historically been doing this to not only natives, but to other minority groups as well, like immigrants, African Americans, and any other groups of people who didn't look like them physically. Building off of that, I was surprised that a podcast that I found on reddit was so informative. The podcast was very professional, very reliable, and overall seemed like a source that could be used in a future research paper. This came as a shock to me because I’ve always had the thought that reddit was just a platform where you can say anything and joke around. But instead, it was very educational.
